Utility Locates Awareness
This course will provide the participants with the purposes, principles, and limitations of subsurface utility line locates on well construction sites, including basic locating techniques, interpretation of locate documentation and site maps, and an understanding of the associated risks and hazards posed by subsurface utility - to property, people, and the environment. $129.36 >> Winter 2010 Dates and Locations
Subsurface Connections This course covers subsurface connections for wells through the selection of equipment, techniques and best management practices. Discussions, equipment samples and case studies apply directly to on-the-job situations.
$158.41 >> Available online
Monitoring Wells - Construction This course explores the best management practices for the construction and abandonment of monitoring wells in a variety of situations. Discussions and case studies apply directly to on-the-job situations.
$158.41 >> Available online
Flowing Wells - This course describes flowing wells and how to predict the likelihood of encountering a flowing well. It also discusses how to handle flowing wells during the construction process, taking the local geological conditions into consideration. Discussions, video, equipment samples and case studies are used to emphasize learning for application on the job.
$158.41 >> Available online
The Safety Course - This course illustrates the Regulations and Best Management Practices that result in the safety precautions that must be taken in order to avoid accidents during all phases of the construction of a well. Safety precautions before the job begins, during the job and when the job is complete are discussed. Details also include personal protective equipment, precautions for excavations, off-road movement, dealing with utilities, load security and WHMIS standards. These precautions are based on applicable Regulations and Best Management Practices. Discussions, videos, equipment samples, and case studies are used to emphasize learning for application on the job. $158.41 >> Available online
Pump Sizing for Licensed Well Technicians - This course covers the sizing of pumps through the selection of the most practical and efficient pump to provide a volume of water required at a reasonable pressure to meet needs of the well's use. Areas of consideration in this course include the well diameter size, drawdown, pumping level, suction head, service pressure, friction loss, total dynamic head, and electrical power sources. $158.41 >> Available online
Sealing Wells - This course covers the construction process involved in sealing the well casing into the hole to ensure that there is no movement of water or other materials along the annular space as directed by Regulation 903. A summary of requirements for sealing an abandoned well are also included. $158.41 >> Available online
Disinfection Using Chlorine/Pumping Tests - The Disinfection module covers the importance of disinfecting wells in all stages of construction, maintenance and abandonment, the pumping equipment and any storage facilities. It details the process required to be compliant with Regulation 903. Proper sampling of water and safety issues and hazards are also discussed.
The Pumping Test module discusses the reasons, procedures and methods of testing for borehole water level and yield. The required standards under Regulation 903 are introduced. Also discussed is what should be done with the discharge water
from the testing process, keeping in mind the potential contamination and other issues related to the environment. $158.41 >> Available online
