This manual was published by the MOE.  Chapter 3 provides complete infor- mation about licensing.

How long will it take to get my certificate to send to the MOE?

2-3 weeks after successful completion of courses, participants will receive a certificate of completion in the mail.

Ontario Regulation 903 requires successful completion of mandatory training for new well technicians and mandatory continuing education for licensed well technicians.

10-Day "Well Constructed" Course
for Ontario Well Technician License Applicants (Classes 1-4)

Topics include Reg. 903, geology, well siting, drilling systems, well construction, well installation, annular space and sealing, pump installations, test pumping the well, disinfecting, well records, GPS, safety, hydrogeology, well abandonment and flowing wells.
If possible, please bring with you some drill cuttings from your geographic area for use in class.
$1,312.40 - Mon-Fri, 8:30am to 4:30pm. (*price subject to change)

Groundwater Monitoring Applications  
for Ontario Class 5 Well Technician License Applicants  

This 30-hour course covers groundwater monitoring applications, including water level measurement, water quality sampling and non-powered construction, methodology, equipment, quality assurance, quality control and best management practices. The course includes both lab and field practice. The successful completion of this course is one of the requirements for an Ontario Class 5 Well Technician License.
NOTE: A portion of this course takes place out of doors. Please dress for any weather conditions and bring a hardhat, work gloves and eye protection.

Continuing Education In Class Workshops
for Licensed Well Technicians

Well Upgrades, Alterations and Maintenance
This 14-hour (2-day) course outlines the step-by-step procedures that should be followed for upgrading three types of wells: a drilled well in a well pit, a dug well, and driven well. There will be discussion about well maintenance and minor alterations of wells. Licensing requirements, well records and Regulation 903 are considered in relation to each aspect of this course. Discussions, equipment samples and case studies apply directly to on-the-job situations.

Customer Service & Communications for the Well Construction Industry
This course teaches well technicians, as part of a team, to provide excellent customer service and communicate effectively with other team members. This includes the ability to demonstrate professionalism, positive work ethics, good communication skills, accurate documentation, and manage customer relationships. Whether the "customer" is your client, supervisor, co-worker, or government and regulatory representative, good customer service and communication results in profitable business results, improved safety on the jobsite, increased regulatory compliance and environmental stewardship.

Disinfection: Lessons from Water Supply Wells Requirements and Best Management Practices

This 7 hour course guides participants through the relevant chapters of Water Supply Wells: Requirements and Best Management Practices (MOE, 2009).  Participants will cover the importance of disinfecting pumping equipment and wells during initial construction, alterations and maintenance activities. They will learn the process required to comply with the Wells Regulation. Information on proper sampling and testing of water, safety issues and hazards will also be provided. $172.20

Annular Space and Sealing: Lessons from Water Supply Wells Requirements and Best Management Practices

This 7 hour course guides participants through the relevant chapters of Water Supply Wells: Requirements and Best Management Practices (MOE, 2009).  Participants will cover the process involved in sealing the well casing into the hole to ensure that there is no movement of water or other materials along the annular space as required by the Wells Regulation. $172.20

This course covers subsurface connections for wells through the selection of equipment, techniques and best management practices. Discussions, equipment samples and case studies apply directly to on-the-job situations. $172.20

Monitoring Wells - Construction
This course explores the best management practices for the construction and abandonment of monitoring wells in a variety of situations. Discussions and case studies apply directly to on-the-job situations. $172.20

Flowing Wells - This course describes flowing wells and how to predict the likelihood of encountering a flowing well. It also discusses how to handle flowing wells during the construction process, taking the local geological conditions into consideration. Discussions, video, equipment samples and case studies are used to emphasize learning for application on the job. $172.20

The Safety Course - This course illustrates the Regulations and Best Management Practices that result in the safety precautions that must be taken in order to avoid accidents during all phases of the construction of a well. Safety precautions before the job begins, during the job and when the job is complete are discussed. Details also include personal protective equipment, precautions for excavations, off-road movement, dealing with utilities, load security and WHMIS standards. These precautions are based on applicable Regulations and Best Management Practices. Discussions, videos, equipment samples, and case studies are used to emphasize learning for application on the job. $172.20

Pump Sizing for Licensed Well Technicians - This course covers the sizing of pumps through the selection of the most practical and efficient pump to provide a volume of water required at a reasonable pressure to meet needs of the well's use. Areas of consideration in this course include the well diameter size, drawdown, pumping level, suction head, service pressure, friction loss, total dynamic head, and electrical power sources. $172.20
